Home>Sightseeing>Mitakesan cable car
It takes approximately 90 minutes to walk up Mitakesan (Mount Mitake), but by using the cable car, you can travel from Takimoto station (altitude of 407m) to Mitakesan station (altitude of 831m). With an altitude difference of 424m and a distance of 1,107m, you can reach the summit in just 6 minutes. Its steepest slope can reach 25 grades and the mountain has an average grade of 22 degrees, the steepest in the Kanto region. The cable car was opened to the public in 1935, being able to carry 115 people. There are two cars: the red Mitake car and green Musashi car. It takes 25 minutes to walk from Mitakesan station to the Musashimitake Shrine on the summit. The temperature on the summit is 6 degrees lower than in the city, so you are transported to another world with cool summers.

I took a peculiar cable car from Takimoto Station to Mitakesan Station.
Along the way, a fantastic and wide cedar forest was spreading on both sides of the cable car: it was rather mystical. When I arrived at Mitakesan station, I could see, from the middle of nature, people’s bustling and the resplendent nature far down below. The city life can be quite noisy, and so I was glad to see this scenery encompassing both nature and human activity.
